Prologue: Sinister Stirrings
<<<<BEGIN TRANSMISSION>>>>
It was a dark and stormy night… well, not exactly dark, but a storm was definitely brewing…
7:45 PM – THE SENATE BUILDING - WASHINGTON DC
The phone rang in the darkened office, a momentary flash of distant lightning illuminating the silhouetted figure in the high-backed chair. He picked it up on the 3rd ring.
“Yes?”
“Our friends are proceeding as planned,” came the hushed voice on the other end “go to scramble mode now” a few seconds of muted beeps and clicks followed as the line was encrypted.
“We are on schedule, and ready to commence phase one when the targets reach the critical point” the voice continued, “our own project is at ninety-five percent, and will need the data from System B in order to reach completion”
“And so you shall have it” the figure replied. “And what of my compensation?”
“The five million has been deposited into your offshore account as previously agreed upon”
“Very well. Although, it seems to me that you of all people would have the edge in this particular field… Tell me, why is it that you need the System B data at all?”
“Professor Dandridge has perfected something my team –even with our edge- could not: a working Personality Engine.”
“I see, so basically, you need our professor to develop his technology to a stage where you can then copy, and re-task it for your own use?”
“You deserve to know that much, senator…” returned the voice.
The senator felt a momentary stab of offense at the deliberately lowercase pronunciation of his title, but remembered just who was on the other end, and held his tongue.
“Until later, then.”
“As you Americans say, “See you later”.”
The senator hung up.

This is a novel I started writing way back in '06, and finished it in '08, so the writing style is slightly different, (better...) as the series progresses. Please feel free to post any thoughts, questions, and Ideas you may have. This story is a work of Fiction. Any relation to actual persons living, or dead, is entirely coincidental. All events described herein are also, pure fiction. This is an entirely original work. Certain vehicles, and technologies are only loosely based on anime and various sci-fi concepts. Sources for inspiration include, but are not limited to: Robotech, Full Metal Panic!, Ghost in the Shell, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Michael Chrighton, Tom Clancy, Timothy Zahn, Robert Ludlum, Shirow Masamune, Keith Laumer, Tom Swift, Red Alert 2, Gundam, Zoids, and many others. The story comprises three seperate arcs, which are part of one storyline. The story was designed to be easily translated into an anime series, or a series of graphic novels. If anyone wants to post images of what they think the vehicles and technologies ought to look like, based on their descriptions, please feel free to do so. This is "Hard Sci-Fi", there are no fantastical elements or uses of "impossible" technogies. All tech described either already exists, or is the logical outgrowth of technology currently in development. Someone once told me, that the mark of a good writer, is that when you read their story, can you hear the characters speaking? Can you hear the tires screech, the engines roar, the servos whine, and the explosions rumble? I'll let you all decide for yourselves. Without further ado, I present to you: The Firestorm Protocol.
